Mt Rael Retreat Bob Hart Herald Sun Restaurant Review

Age Good Food Guide Review 2008

Mustering the best attributes of the Valley, 3777 combines the region's wines, produces and physical beauty to impressive effect.

The gleaming dining room, with white leather couches around a stone fireplace and plush upholstered location, allowing a view of rolling hills or twinkling lights to dominate the decor.

Local wines complement classic italian-accented country-style dishes.

Among the five entrees might be an al dente raviolo filled with silky goat's cheese in a mushroom consomme, studded with crushed chestnut, or a yabby souffle served with creme fraiche mayonnaise.

A similarly pert list of mains might include a dome of green olives and finely diced tomato surrounded by lemon-soured trout pieces wrapped in in potato and vine leaves. In the cooler months there might be a rustic veal scaloppine in a rich veal stock and verjuice reduction, with a slab of corn bread to soak it up and a side dish of sauteed spinach.

For dessert, warm chocolate could slide from a bittersweet pudding case served with golden clotted cream.

Brunch is more modest, with house-made jams on toast, eggs any way and Italian coffee.
